Introduction

The Scotland-China Association is for people, generally based in Scotland, who have an interest in all aspects of Chinese life and civilisation, both past and present.

Established in 1966, the Association is non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian. Its members come from all walks of life and hold varying shades of opinion, but are all fascinated by a country which has a remarkable past, an exciting present and an significant future.

China's civilisation can be traced back more than 5000 years. Western travellers and scholars have delighted in its arts, literature, history and artefacts and learned from its inventions. To understand what is happening in China now and the implications for the rest of the world, it is necessary to know what went before.

The Scotland-China Association provides a forum for everyone interested in exploring China's past and assessing its future in the light of present developments.

Activities

The Association holds meetings in Edinburgh and Glasgow to which all members and friends are welcome. The meetings cover a wide range of topics and take the form of talks, discussions, slide and video presentations. Meetings are also held to coincide with cultural events and exhibitions in Scotland. Members have the opportunity to meet Chinese Delegations visiting Scotland and to celebrate traditional Chinese festivals with Chinese people living in Scotland.

Membership

Any individual who shares this interest in China is welcome to join the Association, by filling in the application form and sending it, with the membership subscription, to the Membership Secretary. Organisations, other than political parties, may apply to become affiliated organisations, or may choose to join the China Business Club.   See this page for more information on membership and downloadable forms.

China Business Club

The Scotland-China Association's China Business Club was started in 1995 to provide a network for people involved with business in China who are keen to share their experiences. The meetings, usually over an informal Chinese meal, are held in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Members are also advised of Chinese business delegations coming to Scotland. The Club can also provide briefings and information for companies going to China for the first time.
